CDR Matthew Thatcher US Navy Ops Liaison DARPA

Commander Matthew Thatcher joined DARPA in 2020 as a special assistant to the director and U.S. Navy operational liaison.

Prior to joining DARPA, Thatcher served as the director, President’s Emergency Operations Center at the White House Military Office. His operational experience has included tours onboard nuclear fast attack submarines USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724), USS COLUMBUS (SSN 762), and USS CALIFORNIA (SSN 781), deploying multiple times to the Western Pacific and Northern Atlantic theaters of operation and participating in several national security missions and international exercises.

Thatcher’s staff tours have included serving as congressional liaison in the Assistant Secretary of the Navy’s Appropriations Matters Office (FMBE) working with the House and Senate Appropriations Committees; flag aide to the director, Naval Reactors; and as an assistant professor of naval science at the University of Southern California NROTC.

Thatcher holds a Master’s in business administration from USC’s Marshall School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy.
