Saving Lives on the Battlefields of the Future

Executive Summary

Revolutionary advances in battlefield medical technologies and decision-making are needed for future conflicts. Larger numbers of casualties and new injury patterns from advanced weapons; inability to evacuate casualties because of contested air and communications; and limited resources and resupply for dispersed operations could outstrip current, resource-intensive medical technologies and push triage decision-making onto military members that might not normally be faced with such difficult choices. This panel will define grand challenges for battlefield medicine and highlight opportunities for biotechnology, decision-making, robotics, sensing, and artificial intelligence to undergird new systems of life-saving care for future battlefields.

Innovations Toward Manufacturability

Executive Summary

The DoD depends on the domestic industrial and manufacturing base to continually develop new approaches to the development and building of the most advanced military platforms. To meet these constantly evolving needs, DoD has spent the last decade funding the development of advanced manufacturing tools in the hope of innovating faster and rapidly transitioning new technologies to the factory floor. Much has been accomplished in developing new manufacturing technologies, however the impact of these technologies has not been fully realized due to issues with manufacturability (e.g., process scaling, economic constraints, component qualification/certification). This session will explore new ways to accelerate the development and adoption of critical manufacturing technologies for DoD systems in industries including aerospace, biomanufacturing, and electronics.

Attendees should park in the Ohio Union South Garage. The parking garage is right next to the Ohio Union and can be entered from N High Street or College Road. Parking will be charged hourly, with a maximum of $17 per day. Please keep your parking ticket with you and utilize the pay-on-foot machines on your way out to expedite your departure. Pay-on-foot machines accept cash and credit, while the exit gates accept credit only (no cash).
