John Launchbury is an American and British computer scientist who is founder and Chief Scientist of Galois, Inc., and (more recently) founder and CTO of Tangram Flex, a company dedicated to aid system developers work with component-based open architectures. Previously, Launchbury directed DARPA’s Information Innovation Office, where he oversaw nation-scale scientific and engineering research in cybersecurity, data analysis, and artificial intelligence. John’s technical focus is to leverage mathematical techniques to bring trustworthiness to critical systems. He graduated Oxford with a First in Mathematics, and moved to Glasgow for a PhD in Computer Science, where his thesis won the British Distinguished Dissertation award. Dr Launchbury is a contributing designer of the Haskell programming language and a Fellow of the ACM.
